A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla. This scent is brought to you by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab: the world's most decadent perfume house. Our perfumes are inspired by a vast range of influences, from the passion of the Fin de Siècle movement to the ghastliest of Lovecraftian monstrosities, we specialize in eliciting emotional responses through perfume and creating unique, masterfully molded scent environments that capture legends and folklore, poetry, and the stuff of dreams and nightmares. Though we are at times campy, and sometimes very tongue-in-cheek, we never lose sight of our one true goal: moving the soul and spirit through the unbridled artistry of scent, and remaining unbound by conventional fashion. | | | Features: | |

Best perfumes in the worldMay 06, 2009 Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab has THE best perfumes in the world...and that is a FACT! You won't find anything more unique, natural and beautiful-smelling. If you're sick of generic-smelling, sneeze-inducing, alchohol and chemical laden department store perfumes or are turned off by tiyr run-of-the-mill natural food store perfume oils, try BPAL. Their perfume isn't JUST perfume, they're moments, magic, memories, stories all packed into one little 5ml bottle. I'm not sure how she does it but Beth (the creator of Black Phoenix oils) must work some sort of magical voodoo into her perfumes. They are exquisitly and expertly created, I really can't say enough about them. I'm also a huge fan of the BPAL community www.bpal.org the ladies (and guys too!) are all such a warm, welcoming, intelligent, witty and charming bunch of people. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab really just isn't perfume, it's a whole other wonderful world with new things to explore (and smell!) every month. I'm madly in love with these guys (as you may have already guessed :p) Oh and a bonus, everything they make is natural and vegan-friendly :)
As for Snake Oil, this is their most popular scent. It's a nice, warm vanilla blend that WON'T leave you smelling like a cheap candle. This has a nice, rich, spicy incense feel to it. It's exotic and natural-smelling (no artificial scents or chemicals here!). I think this would make a great starter scent for anyone who wants to try BPAL for the first time. If you like Snake Oil, you may want to hop over to www.blackphoenixalchemylab.com , click on the "Carnival Diabolique" link and then scroll to the section listed as "The Snake Pit". There you'll find a bunch of various oils blended with Snake Oil as the base. My favorite is Western Diamondback.
If you're looking for a uinique "signature scent", are chemically sensetive, or are just fed up with stinky generic perfumes, give this a try!

The BEST Perfume Oils out there!!Sep 25, 2008 As a long time hater of alcohol-based perfume, I was so happy to finally find bpal. I only wear fragrance oils due to a sensitivity, and all those I have tried pale in comparison to the unique offerings from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. Snake Oil, their best seller, smells like a wonderfully spicy vanilla once it has had a chance to age and mellow on the skin. You will have to smell it to believe it, but do not lose heart if your Snake Oil has a bit of a medicinal smell. With some time and cooperative skin chemistry, it will smell warm and inviting and slightly exotic.
While some may think it madness to buy perfumes over the internet, the catalog is actually very evocative, listing scents by their composition. The forum reviews are also extremely helpful and on-topic.
At first I was a bit overwhelmed by the huge selection of oils, but it doesn't take long to sample a large portion of the general catalog if you order imps , a small sample-sized vial about 1/5 of the size of a 5ml bottle. Each of the General Catalog scents is only $15 for the 5ml, and $3.50 per imp.
What I really enjoy about the lab's scents is that they smell different on everyone based on personal skin chemistry, so the scent you love really is uniquely yours and may not smell the same at all on another person. Though the beauty of the oils, the website itself, and the obvious joy its owners take in crafting them impressed me initially, it is the concept of having my own personal fragrances that excited me the most, and keeps me coming back to bpal.

Snake oil perfume Sep 13, 2008 I recently purchased a bottle of Snake Oil from Black Phoenix and it is wonderful. I received my order in record time also, just a matter of days!
This is the most beautiful scent, it's musky but sweet and very calming to your scenes. I love it.
No wonder this is Black Phoenix's most popular scent. It's a winner with me and everyone around me :)

A keeper!May 10, 2008 Snake oil is a lovely, incredibly smooth scent of the vanilla-musk-resin variety. It's one of the few vanillas I can wear as it's NOT overly foody, and sweet without being overly so. It's a smooth, relaxing, sensual blend. Seriously, it's relaxing enough that I'll sniff it before public speaking to calm my jitters, and it's sensual enough to be a *great* blend to wear for a date. It's got a good throw for an oil-based perfume and really, a little goes a long way. It also lasts -- you're unlikely to need to touch this one up over the course of a day.
The way to let this oil shine however, is to buy a bottle and tuck it away for a few months to age before wearing. It starts out okay when fresh, but ages gorgeously, taking a good 6-12 months to truly become something amazing. Once I figured this out, I promptly went out and bought 4 bottles of it to age in a cool, dark place. I think of it as my perfume "wine cellar." :)

The best of the bestMar 16, 2008 I own quite a few Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab oils and Snake Oil has got to be one of the best. The spice evens out the sweet vanilla, so it is not overly sweet. This fragrance has to be tried. But if Snake Oil does not sound like your scent, check out Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's website, they have something for everyone there and the concepts are something to read. In fact I have bought fragrances based on the concept alone.
